What happens when cities gear their road space primarily to the needs of cyclists and e-bikers? On a new popular-science website, ETH researchers from the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering use examples from the city of Zurich to show what such an “E-Bike City” could one day look like.
Scientifica, the science festival organised by ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich, takes place from 28 August to 3 September 2023. This year's theme is "What holds the world together". D-BAUG is taking part with twelve exciting contributions, including a discussion on Zurich as E-Bike City, a film screening, several exhibitions, short lectures and guided tours as well as a workshop.
On 8 June 2023 not only preliminary results have been presented, but participants were also actively involved in shaping the research questions from the D-BAUG lighthouse project "E-Bike City" conducted by its seven research groups. With various presentations and workshops, the researchers, experts and stakeholders deepened their research topics and methods. About 80 participants contributed to a successful event. The recordings are now online.
They come to ETH Zurich almost daily by bike or e-bike. Three D-BAUG transport researchers are investigating how an e-bike-friendly city works. They are also committed to a safe, sustainable, and CO2-reducing campus mobility at ETH Zurich.
